Tasks and Job: 

  • Set up and operate various types of machine tools, such as CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses, to produce parts and components based on blueprints or technical drawings.
  • Adjust machine settings, speeds, and feeds to ensure precision and quality of finished products.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to keep them in good working condition.
  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine specifications for parts and materials.
  • Use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to verify dimensions and tolerances of finished parts.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on machines and tools, including identifying issues like worn parts or misalignments.
  • Replace damaged or worn-out tooling, machine components, and other parts to maintain machine accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure machines are calibrated and functioning properly to avoid production errors.

Experience:

  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or formal training in machining.
  • Certification in machining (e.g., NIMS, CNC programming).
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for CNC programming.
  • Experience with other machining processes like EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) or wire cutting.
