Automotive Serviceperson

Oneonta City School District has the following vacancy: Automotive Serviceperson Selected applicant will perform semi-skilled maintenance work on vehicles and buses; does related work as required. Applicants must meet minimum civil service qualifications.

Salary: $33,635

An Automotive Serviceperson for a school district is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of school buses and other district vehicles to ensure safe and reliable transportation for students and staff. Key duties include performing routine maintenance, such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and engine diagnostics, as well as identifying and addressing mechanical issues promptly. The Serviceperson ensures that all vehicles meet safety standards and regulatory requirements, conducts thorough inspections, and keeps detailed maintenance records. This role requires strong mechanical skills, knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, and familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment. The Serviceperson works closely with the transportation department to schedule repairs and minimize vehicle downtime. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with relevant certification in automotive technology or mechanics. Previous experience in automotive maintenance, particularly with school buses or heavy vehicles, is preferred.
