JOB TITLE: Maintenance Worker I

Reports to: Director of Maintenance and Transportation

FLSA status: Non- Exempt

Supervisory Duties: None

Classification: Classified

Approved On: January 23, 2024

Term of Employment: 12-month year; four-day work week, Monday - Thursday

Position Summary: This physically demanding position requires excellent customer service, mechanical, and construction skills, along with the ability to complete physically active work performed outdoors in possible extreme temperatures.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Works cooperatively and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, district personnel and the general public.
  • Responds with tact and courtesy in public contact situations and provides information requiring a knowledge of district policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment, school buildings, grounds, and residential units.
  • Performs routine maintenance on all building equipment and grounds.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and routine repair on equipment.
  • Performs building repairs of all types.
  • Paints furniture and rooms.
  • Performs snow removal with shovel and/or snowplow, removing snow from walkways, roofs and common areas.
  • Works with others to move supplies, appliances, furniture, or equipment on campus or in housing units.
  • Operates school bus for before and after school routes, field trips and sports activities.
  • Performs crossing guard duties as needed.
  • Assists other maintenance team members in completing projects as requested.
  • Performs other duties as needs arise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years buildings and grounds maintenance experience with competence in varied areas.
  • Possession of an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, standard safety procedures, and regulations for the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted construction, renovation, and repair standards.
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques and motor vehicle laws.
  • Skill in the construction, repair, restoration, and installation of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, wood, and related materials.
  • Skill in communicating clearly, both in verbal and written forms.
  • Skill in using heavy equipment, machinery and power tools.
  • Skill in using a computer, related equipment, and software currently in use.
  • Ability to read building plans.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work from hydraulic lift and/or scaffolding, walk around campus multiple times daily.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, lift, kneel, bend, stoop, and remain seated for extended periods.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Position involves physical work in indoor and outdoor environments, subject to long periods of standing, walking, climbing, lifting, kneeling, and bending with exposure to dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals, and infectious disease. The employee would be required to life up to 50 pounds safely. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess and maintain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must possess/obtain and maintain an Arizona CDL for school buses
