JOB TITLE: Maintenance Worker II

Reports to: Director of Maintenance and Transportation

FBA status: Non- Exempt

Supervisory Duties: Supervises Maintenance and Transportation employees in absence of and/or when directed by Director.

Classification: Classified

Approved On: January 23, 2024

Term of Employment: 12-month year; four-day work week, Monday-Thursday; on-call evenings and two weekends per month.

Position Summary: This mentally and physically demanding position requires excellent customer service, mechanical, and construction skills, along with the ability to complete physically active work performed outdoors in possible extreme temperatures. This position serves to troubleshoot and solve district and site needs as they arise; maintains buildings and grounds in a safe and efficient manner.



  • Works cooperatively and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, district personnel and the general public
  • Prepares, submits, and works with insurer on claims for covered damages to housing and school
  • Supervises maintenance staff; supervises transportation staff in the absence of the Director of Maintenance/Transportation and/or when so directed
  • Performs duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment, school buildings, grounds, and residential units.
  • Manages and assigns daily maintenance work orders.
  • Orders maintenance supplies for school and housing.
  • Inspects housing and school building roofs regularly.
  • Responds to calls for emergency repairs, including building, electrical, or plumbing failures.
  • Sets up, installs, and maintains playground and sporting equipment as well as equipment and furniture for school activities.
  • Assists in the operation and use of heavy equipment and machinery related to projects on campus as needed.
  • Performs snow removal with shovel and/or snowplow, removing snow from walkways, roofs and common areas.
  • Works with others to move supplies, appliances, furniture, or equipment on campus or in housing units.
  • Operates school bus for before and after school routes, field trips and sports activities.
  • Performs crossing guard duties as needed.
  • Assists other maintenance team members in completing projects as requested
  • Performs other duties as needs arise.



  • Education equivalent to a high school diploma; prefer associates' degree.
  • Five (5) years buildings and grounds maintenance experience with competence in varied areas.
  • Additional certifications helpful
  • Possession of an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.


  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, standard safety procedures, and regulations for the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted construction, renovation, and repair standards.
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques and motor vehicle laws.
  • Skill in the construction, repair, restoration, and installation of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, wood, and related materials.
  • Skill in supervising, delegating, and scheduling work for others.
  • Skill in communicating clearly, both in verbal and written forms.
  • Skill in using heavy equipment, machinery and power tools.
  • Skill in using a computer, related equipment, and software currently in use.
  • Ability to read building plans.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work from hydraulic lift and/or scaffolding, walk around campus multiple times daily.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, lift, kneel, bend, stoop, and remain seated for extended periods.


  • Position involves physical work in indoor and outdoor environments, subject to long periods of standing, walking, climbing, lifting, kneeling, and bending with exposure to dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals, and infectious disease. The employee would be required to life up to 50 pounds safely. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times.   • Must possess and maintain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must possess/obtain and maintain an Arizona CDL for school buses.
